Camiguin Island


Known as the island ‘Born of Fire’, Camiguin situated in the North West coast of Mindanao. A tiny pear shaped volcanic island which has seven volcanoes, one of them is unpredictably active, Mt Hibok-hibok. The smallest province of Northern Mindanao. Its exquisite combination of varied ecosystem will undoubtedly fascinate people that have an immense interest on nature. With its spectacular natural wonders, tranquil surrounding, unspoiled beauty and well preserved rustic history one will be enchanted by its mystical charm. 
                          

Attractions

 
Katibawasan Falls.
A majestic waterfalls cascading 70 meters down to the clear rock pool surrounded with green lushes, bustling trees and wild flowers, which has a scenic beauty from the view deck. (See Image->)
 
Ardent Hot Spring. Natural pool with 40 degrees centigrade water springing from the depths of the volcano that has rejuvenating therapeutic effects and can even cook an egg in 5 minutes. Nestled in an artfully landscaped garden with picnic areas for family and friends.

Catarman Church Ruins  (Gui-ob Church). Devastated with the volcanic eruption in 1871 that wiped out the Spanish settlement of Catarman, the remains of an Old Spanish church, ruins of adobe walls, belfry and convent are mute witnesses to the wrath of nature.



White Island
. A unique white sand bar that changes its shape depending on ocean tides, sometimes it forms letter C, other times letter I, that compliments the turquoise water and with the panoramic view of Mt. Hibok-hibok as its backdrop. (Image-->)

Mantigue Island. Few kilometers away off shore from Mahinog lies a four hectares sandy beach with lush green forest, pristine water and exotic marine life.
 





Old Volcano Walkway via Cruzes. Where the most anticipated event during Holy Week takes place, Catholics meditate through Stations of the Cross. The last station ends on top of the summit with a breathtaking view of the island, which has an easy access through the concrete stairs with hundred steps.

Sto. Nino Cold Spring. Refreshing cold spring water that has a huge pool and sandy bottom with tiny fishes all around. Picnic huts and tables are available for the visitors. 

 
Mt. Hibok-hibok. The only active volcano among the seven others in the island, which dominates half of the northern part, it has a moss encircle crater representing shallow lakes and 1,250 meter high.

Bura Soda Pool. The volcanic spring of Bura which lies on the foothills of Mt. Hibok-hibok fill two pools with fresh, clear soda water, surrounded with a lovely landscaped plants and flowers.
 

Things To Do

 
Snorkeling or diving in White Island or Mantigue Island, with its exotic marine sanctuary one will surely ask for more.
 
Trekking on the summit of Mt. Hibok-hibok for one day or exploring the five towns namely Mahinog, Mambajao, Catarman, Guinsiliban and Sagay.
 
Have a refreshing soak in Katibawasan Falls, Sto.Nino Cold Spring or Bura Soda Water.
 
Take a rejuvenating dip in Ardent Hot Spring and revitalize yourself.
 
Have fun on water sports such as jet ski ride, banana boat ride, kayaking are available in some resorts.

Manila to Cagayan de Oro via Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific or Air Philippines
Cagayan de Oro to Balingoan Wharf, 2 hours bus ride through Rural Transit.
Balingoan Wharf to Benoni Wharf or Guinsiliban Wharf , a 30 minutes ferry ride.
 
Manila to Cebu via Philippine Airlines,Cebu Pacific, Zest Air, Air Philippines.
Cebu to Benoni Wharf, 45 minutes Paras SeaCat ride.
 
Manila to Cagayan de Oro via Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific or Air Philippines.

Getting Around

 
Public transportation around the island are jeepneys, motorcycles and tricycles but there are also several vans or multicabs for hire. Motorboats for island hopping.
 
What To Buy
 
The great tasting VJANDEP pastel should not be missing in the list. The delicious La Salud Turrones de Mani and piniato, a unique peanut brittle with honey. Of course the sweet lanzones during its season from August to October.

Have fun on Lanzones Festival, an annual celebration usually happens every third week of October celebrated with a week long street dancing that showcase the sumptuous sweet fruit, lanzones which are decorated on the houses and street poles during the festivity.
